If you go on a Greyhound bus to Hollywood, the name you get on with may
not be the one you alight with. It's about the Hollywood effect or how
to glitter in Tinsel town. In Don't Forget Me Mark Pinkosh also
gives us the low down on life, love and longing. He brings us Angus the
Producer who wheels and deals, and Chip the young guy with ambition he
comes upon in the desert. Back in Hollywood Angus shows the eager Chip
around, and we too are transported to the world where people have dreams
but even Mamet can't get his screenplay accepted.
Godfrey Hamilton has written a vivid one-man play for his collaborating
Starving Artist, Pinkosh. It's lively, insightful and moving, taking us
into the lives of people we may not have much in common with but who are
brought before us in such a way that we take to them. Ambition and desire
for success, keeping ahead of the game and being warmed at night are the
concerns of Angus and Chip as we begin to feel with them not just for
them. Don't Forget Me is often very funny and in the short scenes
Pinkosh illuminates as he entertains, making this piece heartwarming and
celebratory, undercut with well written and achieved subtlety. Pinkosh's
performance sparkles and I, for one, will not forget seeing him or meeting
Nancy, Angus's adolescent film star dream. And I might just one day get
on that Greyhound Bus myself!
