The Hare and The Tortoise
Writers and Devisers - Virginia Radcliffe and Deborah Arnott from Aesop's tale Director - - Virginia Radcliffe Designer - Catherine Lindow Music - Timothy Brinkhurst Company - Wee Stories Theatre For Children - to email Venue - Traverse Theatre Date Seen - 22 September 2001 Runtime about 1hr Reviewer - Thelma Good Bowled along with flair, comedy and lots of lively action Virginia Radcliffe's Hare is always in a dash, with her ears all akimbo and legs a-jerk all the time. Debroah Arnott's Tortoise is slow, measured. Takes her time does Tortoise. From the start these very different two are entertaining. Before long we're cheering them on and putting them right when they nearly go wrong. In the market we help the Brothers Bun bake a cake - our audience put in vinegar, sausages, strawberries and carrot, luckily there was lots of chocolate! As well as the Buns there's Bo-Peep, a river to cross then the Spooky wood before the finishing line with the marvellous Agnes on the committee. Some of us are Hares and some Tortoises we realise as we get bowled along with flair, comedy and lots of lively action. Wee Stories' The Hare And The Tortoise never flags. This company really keeps the show racing along with their 3- 6 year target audience cheering them on all the way. Don't be surprised when your young come out jumping like the hare or walking deliberately like her shelled friend, they're showing you they've had a good time. Don't be a boring adult join in! © Thelma Good 22 September 2001 WeeStories new production Molly Whuppie for 3 -6 year olds will be touring Scotland late 2001 at Traverse 19 - 22 Dec Other Wee Stories production reviewed by Edinburghguide Treasure Island
