Fingal is the third brother. When his father dies he doesn't get the house or the land, those go to brother one and two. He gets the horse, the old horse so he goes off to make his fortune and the horse gets stolen. But this one can speak tells him, wherever he wants to go the horse will take him there.

So off they go in a journey which has shadow puppets and landscapes as well as glove and rod and stick ones, so that we see Fingal and his horse fly over huge mountains, and arrive at the castle where the Princess lives. Her father sets challenges to Fingal and another suitor but Fingal's horse helps him out.

Alison Monaghan is the sole puppeteer for her version of this traditional Scottish tale, she works hard, sometimes too fast for the children to follow the story's many details. There is a soft musical accompaniment, but I left feeling a second puppeteer would make the tale's telling more lively.
