Keeps the production afloat and moving.

A spiral of ever decreasing wooden stairs is the set with a tiny bed on the final flight. This is Josh's bed in the noisy house he lives with his older sister, his mum and granny. One day he hears a noise he senses is special and he gets his Gran to take him to the sound.

The young audience immediately tuned in to this production which uses simple theatrical devices and a lovely character in the puppet of Josh to bring alive this tale. They create a world at first rooted in the reality of older people's rush and not really listening when young people want to be heard. Later after Josh is bathed and in bed the worlds of dream and wonder come in with the sea and wash us all into this tale of a boy, his family and how imagination can set us free.

Cries of delight greeted quite a few scenes, and when Josh and his Gran arrived in the centre of the busy city there were concerned cries telling Josh to watch out. They know how easy it is to get confused in the city roar. Josh and Gran get to the sea and Josh goes in with his flippered and goggled teddy and the girl beside me bounced up and down with increasing delight at what appeared from beneath the waves.

The ending is a little flat, but the buoyancy of the rest especially Josh as moved by Stewart Cairns and the inventive musical score created and performed by Yngvil Vatn Guttu, keeps the production afloat and moving.
