Two men of two different heights and ages, many different shapes, sizes
and colours of brushes, sweepers and dusters and a set of a pair of red
curtains make A Clean Sweep a show for all ages. Dustin the small
clown, Tim Licata and taller, more laconic Walt, Ian Cameron,
find there's some cleaning to do.
These bare faced clowns start to vie with one another, to audience mirth
they wind one another up and down. You'll see cleaning devices used in
a variety of ways, far more varieties than you or I have ever shaken in
anger or cleaning frenzy. A gentle wordless humour fills the stage as
we learn to watch the pair's eyes or the tilt of a shoulder, the angle
of a leg.
As a musical background to it all Andrew Cruckshank has composed a series
of French sounding tunes which also recall the clown music used in big
tops, it's catchy music you can take home if you purchase his CD on sale
after the show. At 70 minutes this, the first show from the new Plutot
La Vie company, is just a fraction too long but their clowns have such
disarming charm you forgive them.
