Text helps to connect.

Five dancers with text, classical music laced with Abba's "Dancing Queens", a floor strewn and restrewn with petals, lights and an absence of light explore fear. All types of fears are confessed to by the dancers who behave like children, teasing, pushing and shoving each other. The extensive text also includes a growing number of signed words, which when used by all at the same time become a choreographed chorus.

There are solos, whole company work and all combinations in between. Some sequences convey more than others, most striking is the dancer who has a fear of performing alone, the bird-girl who is flung between two of the men and the boy escaping the spotlight who is discover trying to leg it over the back wall.

Cas Public's first work for children fluctates between clear easily understood sections and more complex movements whose reasons seem based on the desire to find a flow of moves rather than express an internal, intergal journey or state. There's just enough in this peice to make it an approachable introduction to comtemporary dance, but if there had been no text they would have struggled far more to connect.
