Theatre listings > Party. - Netherlands Company. Part of the Childrens' International Theatre Festival. A selection from peices done by Introdans since they were formed. Programme Details - here . Company - Introdans Ensemble For Youth (Netherlands) Company Website. Seen to review at Kings Theatre Edinburgh on 28 May 2005. Run Time - 1 hour 30 mins, one interval. Suggested Age - 8 - 14 years old and up. Reviewer - Thelma Good. Stimulating to eyes, ears and minds. Nothing but the best in this selection from Introdans Ensemble For Youth. They have drawn on work they have either introduced into their repertoire or commissioned from top flight choreographers. This company is the only company in Europe dedicated to work for children and and young people, after seeing this programme I couldn't help feeling that many adult focussed companies are misserving us. From the first piece, Feast where the dancers in their fringed armed white and black tight costumes emphasise the animal and tribal resonances to the final one where white faced dancers with powered wigs and cooped dresses every element, dancers, design and music fused to make very strong pieces of integrity and often fun. Comedy is a frequent element in their dances, whether it's the legs tied together, sunglasses and combats wearing four dancing to Talking Heads' "Pyscho Killer" or in Black Cake where a extraordinarily tall female dancer is partnered with a very small male one to the music of Strawinski. Crucially it's comedy that comes out of the choreography, not an optional add-on. And it's comedy with an edge - Pyscho Killer making you see the soulessness and attraction of military manoeuvres, Black Cake's questioning of our heightist and gender assumption or in Sechs Tanze's undercurrent of violence. In the last the feeling that these brittle aristocrats attempts to divert themselves was happening in the Bastille during The Terror when heads were frequently severed is an amplifying undertext. Introdans give you intelligent dance, stimulating to eyes, ears and minds. I enjoyed seeing Party to review so much I paid two nights later to experience them again. It's a large company but there's not a weak one amongst them, in duos or in ensemble, precision and exhilaration are paired astoundingly. Experiencing these superbly crafted pieces delivered by such accomplished artists, costumed and lit so finely gives any dance lover a real treat and switched on lots of teenagers boys and girls when I saw it. I'm told that when a group went on a theatre tour at the Kings after seeing a schools' performance of Party! it was the boys who irresistibly succumbed when they walked onto the empty stage. They were inspired to dance like Introdans. A company well named, if they come to your country don't miss them. © Thelma Good 28 May 2005 - Published on EdinburghGuide.com Feast.(2004).Introdans premiered.
