Big Case

Lauriston Castle Glasshouse, Edinburgh

1st-14th August 2008

Famous for its collection of fine tapestries, period furniture and antiques, Lauriston Castle is a time capsule of the Edwardian era.  But for the first two weeks in August it will have distinctly modern guests.

Big Case, a show by 10 contemporary artists, will transform the Castle's glasshouse into giant display case for an exhibition of their work.

The show, mostly by recent graduates from the Glass and Sculpture departments of Edinburgh College of Art includes all new works in sculpture, glasswork, videos, performance and photography.

A special opening evening of entertainment on the 1st August including music from Dead on the Live Wire and Action Group kicks off the project.

Lauriston  Castle is set in 30 acres of parkland and formal gardens with spectacular views overlooking the Firth of Forth.  A 19th century mansion built around a 16th century tower house, the Castle has been home to a number of notable Scots.

It was entrusted to the care of City of Edinburgh Council in 1926 and this is the first time that the Glasshouse has been used as an exhibition space.
