Edinburgh's Hogmanay: Night Afore Fiesta

Description

A free, family-orientated event, the NIght Afore was introduced as part of Edinburgh's Hogmanay events in 2000 after the success of the main Edinburgh's Hogmanay Street Party on New Year's Eve. Running for several years in 2008 it was called the Dancin'.

It's another street party, this time on George Street, just slightly less rowdy than the Hogmanay Street Party.

If you fancy a fling - the highland sort, mind - this is the place to be. In the course of the evening, there is usually an attempt at the longest Strip the Willow ever - the most energetic fling of them all.

The record-attempt, led by the Portobello Ceilidh Band, takes place at 9pm at Scottish Ceilidh stage. The ripping Blazin' Fiddles will headline the Scottish Ceilidh stage.

There's music, dance and street theatre in a carnival atmosphere and often with a European flavour. Previous years themes have been Catalan and German.

Free, and unticketed.
