Pedal For Scotland: Scotland's biggest bike ride
Scotland's biggest bike ride takes place this Sunday, 14th September 2008. Edinburgh riders can get the bus from Craighall Road adjacent to the western side of Victoria Park in the early morning through to Glasgow (book ahead). The ride itself starts by the Winter Gardens at Glasgow Green between 8am and 10am and ends at Victoria Park, Edinburgh (feeding station open til 7pm).
More than 5,300 people will get on their bikes to ride from Glasgow to Edinburgh.
The event aims to encourage people of all abilities to get on their bikes and enjoy the health benefits of cycling whilst at the same time raising money for charity.
Registration
People can still enter on the day. On the day registration will be open from 7.30am until 9.30am in the Winter Gardens on Glasgow Green and there will be an additional surcharge. Fee on the day will be £20 per person (£10 concessions).
Last year's event featured a number of high profile riders including Alastair Campbell, the former Downing Street spin doctor and a keen sportsman and patron of Leukaemia Research, and Nicola Sturgeon, the Deputy First Minister. This year, Nicola Sturgeon will ride again as will Mark Beaumont, the cyclist who set the world record for cycling around the world.
Those people or teams facing a physical or emotional challenge by entering the ride can be nominated for an award - Leukaemia Research's David Carmichael Memorial Quaich.
To do so, please e-mail pedalforscotland@lrf.org.uk or phone Yvonne Dickson on 0131 661 9224.
The events is organised by Pennine Events Limited, which has offices in Barnoldswick and Wigan in England, and specialises in organising sports, leisure and health events, across the country.
Mark Sandamas, Director of Pennine Events Limited, said: "We have even more entries for this year's event than last year, which is pleasing. Regardless of the weather, I've no doubt people will enjoy the event, make some new friends and feel a sense of achievement by raising some money for their favourite charity."
