A Renaissance Easter at Edinburgh and Stirling Castle

This Easter, enjoy an afternoon of family fun and Renaissance revelry at one of Scotland's best-loved castles.

On Saturday 11th April, from noon to 4pm, visitors to Edinburgh Castle will be treated to a variety of 16th century-themed entertainment staged by a colourful ensemble cast.  And with everything included in the normal admission price to the castle, it's an afternoon out offering great value.

There will be a jester delighting all ages with jolly japes and tomfoolery, a puppet performance, a comedy show featuring some infamous historical characters, a talk on falconry - a favourite Renaissance pastime - and an opportunity to meet some impressive birds of prey.

The Easter extravaganza is repeated at Stirling Castle on Sunday 12th April and Monday 13th April, where (again from noon to 4pm and included in the normal ticket price) there will also be a falconry display plus a chance for children to dress up in Renaissance costumes, learn about 16th century etiquette and have fun decorating Easter eggs with designs inspired by the period.

Gillian Urquhart of Historic Scotland's Events Team says: "Our Renaissance-themed Easter events at Edinburgh and Stirling Castles aim to offer great entertainment for all ages, so we hope that as many families as possible will come along to enjoy a superb value for money day out at these two outstanding historic venues."

At both castles, to complement these special events, the catering will be Easter-themed.  Edinburgh Castle's Queen Anne Café - an elegant, contemporary space to dine within Crown Square - will offer visitors a tempting Easter menu.  And in the welcoming surroundings of the self-service Redcoat Café, the celebration fare will include Easter chocolate treats for children, who'll also be able to have some fun at the café's Easter colouring-in section.  Stirling Castle's Unicorn Café will be offering homemade hot cross buns and Easter cakes designed for younger customers.  The Unicorn Café is also inviting children to take part in an Easter egg colouring-in competition, with prizes for the winner.

In addition, the gift shops at both attractions will be running several promotions over Easter, with special price offers on shortbread, biscuits and chocolate, as well as souvenirs.
