Car Giants Roar Into Knockhill
Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, BMW, some of the worlds most powerful and exciting cars in motorsport make their debut at Knockhill Racing Circuit in Fife when the GT Cup roars into action this weekend.
Be prepared for 24 GT cars with an estimated combined 9500bhp thundering around Knockhill displaying some of the most exhilarating bumper to bumper racing, fearless overtaking and sensational battles sure to satisfy the needs of any petrol head. This is a weekend which should definitely not be missed.
The GT Cup is a race series with a difference; all competing drivers are amateurs who race for the excitement and adrenaline, not for the money. Changing the usual format from a sprint race to a 50 lap race has not previously been experienced in the GT Cup and will give drivers even more excitement.
Knockhill's Event Director, Stuart Gray, said "We're delighted to be hosting the GT Cup in Scotland for the very first time. The sight and sound of 24 world class GT cars thundering around the dips, twists and turns of Knockhill, will literally make the ground shake! The drivers are set for an exhilarating race, battling each other and the unique driving challenges that the circuit at Scotland's National Motorsport Centre presents".
Not only will the GT cars be strutting their stuff on Saturday and Sunday but there's a whole host of exciting things for all the family both on and off the track. Pipe bands, car displays, and the Real Radio road show will entertain off track while supporting the GT Cup on track will be the Scottish Championship contenders, which include Formula Ford open-wheel racing at its very best; Scottish Sports and Saloons where (almost) everything goes from humble Fiestas to Lamborghinis. Add in Legends, XR2s and Mini Coopers with guest driver Billy Anderson, Real Radio Station Producer and you've got an action packed weekend for all the family. You couldn't ask for a better weekend of action, excitement and superb competition.
Tickets are priced at £5 for Saturday and £15 Sunday, from Knockhill box office, or at the gate. The GT Cup weekend roars into action on Saturday from 1.30pm and on Sunday from 08.30am with the main GT Cup race at 1.30pm.
The GT Cup was established in November 2007 by Marc Haynes after he purchased a Ferrari 360 GT in 2006 but could not find a series to race in. After two years of racing south of the border the GT Cup has finally made its way up to Scotland. Each race has a rolling start behind a pace car. Normally each round sees two, twenty five minute 'sprint' races, however, for the first time in the GT series Knockhill will have a 'sprint' race lasting 25 minutes on Saturday and then the 'big one', a 100kms (50 laps) race on Sunday. The series is split into four 'groups', Group One for the fastest cars through to Group Four for the not so fast cars, however, there's no such thing as a slow car in the GT Cup!
