Eildon Tree 10 celebrates ten years of new writing from the Scottish Borders and beyond

Kathleen Jamie is deeply disappointed that, due to illness, she is unable to fulfill her promise to return to the Scottish Borders to take part in the workshop led by Douglas Maxwell on Saturday 26 September.

Everyone is delighted that Janet Paisley, the brilliantly talented, multi-award winning poet, author, playwright, non-fiction and scriptwriter writing in Scots and English has kindly agreed to take her place. Janet's work has been translated into many languages. Concentrating here on Poetry, this workshop will be suitable for poets of all abilities. A wonderful performer of her work, expect entertainment as well as technical insight into the art and craft of verse. Janet's most recent connection with the Scottish Borders was as writer for Rowan Tree Theatre Company's award winning production The Lasses, O.

The rest of the programme for the Eildon Tree writers' magazine produced by Scottish Borders Council's (SBC's) Arts Development Team celebrating its tenth birthday remains the same. We are looking forward to members of the public joining a weekend of celebrations from Friday 25 - Sunday 27 September at Tower Mill, Heart of Hawick.

Janice Galloway, starts the celebrations on the evening of Friday 25 September with a Reading and Q&A session.

On Saturday 26 September, workshops led by Douglas Maxwell and Janet Paisley reflect the magazine's continuing commitment to writing development and excellence.  Douglas Maxwell will lead a drama workshop in the morning which will be a practical exploration of writing for the stage from a working playwright and in the afternoon, Janet Paisley, will lead a poetry workshop.

In the evening, Rowan Tree Theatre Company performs their new production The Ragged Lion, written by Allan Massie.

Sunday 27 September, late afternoon, is a chance for all writers in the Scottish Borders and beyond to be heard and make their presence felt at an ‘open mic' reading event.   In partnership with the Cultural Co-ordinator Programme at SBC, they are also offering a series of creative writing.

The special Eildon Tree 10th Anniversary edition will be available from all SBC libraries and museums and independent bookshops from Monday 21 September.

Heart of Hawick is a partnership, funded by Scottish Borders Council, the European Regional Development Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund and Museums Galleries Scotland.
