Description

There are only about 1600 giant pandas (Aliurapoda melanoleuca) left in the wild - the fragility of its existence in the mountainous bamboo forests of Sichuan province in China make it one of the most endangered species in the world.

Three members of Edinburgh's Zoological society - David Windmill, Iain Valentine and Stephen Woollard - talk about the efforts of the Chinese government to conserve giant pandas through habitat restoration, captive breeding programmes and how the arrival of giant pandas at Edinburgh Zoo fits in with this conservation effort.
