Mention oil pollution and BP's disastrous oil gusher will be uppermost in most people's minds right now, but the energy-intensive - and hugely lucrative - tar sands operations in Western Canada have wreaked environmental disaster with cancer hotspots among the human population and long-term degradation of a huge swathe of once pristine land and water. As with the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster, H2Oil also reveals how corporations, governments, and scientists have passed the buck of responsibility.
