Description

The annual Edinburgh Cancer Research Art exhibition takes place once again from 15th to 19th November, 2011 at Adam House featuring artists such as Lynn Rodgie, Ian Mastin, Margaret Shaw, Joseph Maxwell Stuart, Evie Carmichael, Wendy Portway, and John Martin.

This very important and popular sale of paintings, arts and crafts started over forty years ago. The first exhibition raised £400.

From that small acorn of an event, it has flourished in quantity and quality with the help of a team of volunteers and the generosity of participating artists. There is a great deal of work involved in sourcing the work, hanging the paintings, presentation of arts and crafts, serving food and drink, manning the sales desks and distributing posters to spread the word.

Over the years around 75,000 pictures have been sold for a total of £ 500,000 – a staggering half a million pounds raised to assist the valuable medical research taking place in our hospital laboratories. Keeping the funds local to assist the citizens of Edinburgh, following the 2010 exhibition, £23,000 was directly donated to the Western General Hospital.

The majority of paintings come from Edinburgh and Lothians but artwork also comes from Yorkshire, the Borders and the West of Scotland, and even from Spain and Australia. The artists range from well known and established, to exciting new young talent.

Whatever your interest in art, this is an enticing exhibition of scenic land and seascapes, still life and figurative paintings, portraits, as well as hand-crafted jewellery, pottery, glass and wool crafts.
