SPOKES, Edinburgh's long-running cycle advocacy group, is urging anyone who cares about cycling and walking in the city to attend its protest at St Andrew's House against the cuts to active travel in the Scottish Government's upcoming budget.

The Scottish Government claims to be pro active transport, citing all the obvious benefits of safer cities, with less air and noise pollution, and the health benefits to individuals from more exercise.

However, SPOKES says that the draft budget would severely deplete funds for cycling and walking over coming years,  "with only some 67 pence of every £100 transport spending likely to go to active travel" in 2012/13.
