Edinburgh Art Fair 2013

Time & place
Description

Edinburgh can boast dozens of private, commercial art galleries which entice a growing number of art collectors of all ages and tastes. Investing in an original painting or limited edition print is a wise move indeed.

Every year in November, the Edinburgh Art Fair welcomes around 10,000 visitors to the Corn Exchange which turns into a giant pop up gallery-warehouse for a three day exhibition.

This is the 9th year of the popular event and is attracting more and more galleries - not just from Scotland and the UK, but worldwide!.

There are 55 galleries this year presenting around 3,000 artworks for sale, with prices from just £ 50 – so this is the perfect place to browse for Christmas presents, or to treat yourself and your home.

The highest price for a single work sold previously at the Fair was £ 45,000 – but the majority of art for sale is all very affordable.

So let’s have a sneak preview at a few of the galleries which are exhibiting. The first on the list is Adhunik Fine Art, from India. The name means modern and contemporary:

“When you buy or gift art, you buy a bit of the artist’s soul. There is an intimate relation between art and aesthetic emotions.” Adhunik Fine Art.

Several Edinburgh galleries will be here so that you have the opportunity to visit all their stands under one roof. These include Alpha, Flaubert, Laurel, Sutton and Printmakers who will each be exhibiting a diverse range of paintings, prints, arts and crafts.

Travelling from their Hebrides Art Gallery at Seilebost, Isle of Harris will be Lesley and Alisdair Wiseman to show their own work and also by other Hebridean artists. The stunning white sand beaches of Harris and turquoise seas inspire wonderful wild seascapes. Alisdair uses watercolour, pen and ink while Lesley creates abstracts in bold colours:

“No matter how many times I look out over the sea I always see something that calls out … evoking the spirit of the islands.”

Jeni Weinberger British Art is located in Wiltshire. Jeni had a career in London’s Mayfair auction houses and now her gallery shows the best British talent at accessible prices. She handpicks “an eclectic mix of sensationally talented artists” whose work you can see here in Edinburgh.

Based in Broughty Ferry and established for over 35 years, Eduardo Alessandro Studios showcases a selection of paintings, ceramics, jewellery and unique crafts & gifts. See this gallery at the Fair.

These are just a few random galleries from the dozens which are exhibiting. You can also visit Galerie Collegiale from Lille, France, Vintage Autograph Bank, Blackwells Bookshop, The Teapot Trust, Art Education charities - amongst many more.

Art lovers will surely be happy to spend a full day or weekend here touring around the Stands. Enjoy a welcome pitstop in the Baron Restaurant, and Champagne & wine bar.

Happy browsing!
