Description

The artists, makers and craftspeople of St Margaret’s House are opening their studios to the public for a weekend-long event. Free workshops, a craft fair, a café and one-off performances will take place across the building’s eight storeys. Located on the city’s London Road, it opens its doors to the public on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November.

The building will open at 10am both days, closing 6pm on Saturday and at 5pm Sunday. Parking spaces are limited but the centre is located on a main bus route and has disabled access.

Artists and creative businesses are now the lifeblood of a building that was once an office block. It has been given new life by the arts charity Edinburgh Palette, who have steadily transformed it into a vibrant art centre from within since 2008. It now offers communal, gallery and studio spaces to local artists and creative businesses.

Many who visit for the first time express surprise at the breadth and wealth of creativity that lives within its walls. By opening its doors, St Margaret’s House will offer the public a rare glimpse of various works and creative projects being made, and allow them to meet the many talented residents behind them.
