Description

Edinburgh Theatre Arts presents Molière's Tartuffe adapted by Roger McGough.

Tartuffe is an apparent beacon of piety and has manoeuvred his feet firmly under the table in the home of wealthy merchant Orgon. However, Orgon's family smell a rat and need to hatch a cunning plan to outwit Tartuffe before he brings their house crashing down.

Universally regarded as the greatest French writer of comedy, Molière wrote Tartuffe in 1664 but the play was banned following its first production in Paris. It wasn’t until 1669 that it was revived and became one of his greatest successes.

Tartuffe, in this new sparkling and witty adaptation by Liverpudlian poet and writer Roger McGough, premiered at the Liverpool Everyman Theatre on 9th May 2008.
