Description

A new musical by an Edinburgh Writer comes to the stage in June for its world premiere.

Goldrush! is the engaging tale of what happens when Highland villagers start a Scottish gold rush to revive their fortunes and lure the tourists back to ‘Glenairty’.
With 17 new songs, a comedy plot line, stage magic, and cast ages ranging from 10 – 60, the show is designed to have broad appeal.

Described by the Producers as a Celtic Musical, the songs range across a variety of styles from tender ballads through Samba and Rap to an energizing set of Scottish reels. Indeed, two members of the 7-piece band are Ceilidh musicians, under the baton of Musical Director, Jerry Gregson.
Director Alan Borthwick is well known as a professional director, particularly keen to support emerging talent. He directs shows annually at the King’s Edinburgh, and regularly for Edinburgh’s Gilbert & Sullivan society.

The musical has been several years in the making. Writer Anne-Marie Fraser explains: “Last summer we went into the recording studio to lay down all the main song numbers, which enabled us to attract and then coach our talented cast. We’ve chosen the 250-seat theatre of St Brides Centre (known for its good acoustics) to premiere the show on 1st June 2016.”

The show runs from 1st – 4th June, including Saturday matinee.
