Many moons ago when Hogmanay was still a local thing, Parliament Square in Edinburgh's Old Town was the place to go and dance into the wee, wee hours on the last night of the year.

The outdoor dance, the Old Town Ceilidh, returns to that same location where you can still birl and swirl your way through the New Year although you will now need to buy tickets (tickets include access to Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party).

The Old Town Ceilidh replaces the popular Keilidh on the Mound, with two stages of music.

Kilter and HotScotch play on the Main ceilidh stage with ‘Ceilidh Makers’ helping new dancers find their steps, and the second stage features young Scottish musicians Talisk, Top Floor Taivers and musicians from Feis Rois in a more informal atmosphere.

Dancing will be held on both paved and cobbled surfaces so wear appropriate sturdy footwear. Also, as this is an all-standing outdoor event and it's Winter, dress for the weather.

There is no age restriction for The Old Town Ceilidh, but the event is not recommended for young children and no buggies are allowed at the event.

Tickets

£47.50 (including box office booking fee) can be bought from the box office from 30th December.

The main entrance to The Old Town Ceilidh is out with the Street Party arena.

Pay bars and food outlets are located within The Old Town Ceilidh arena and outside alcohol is not allowed into The Old Town Ceilidh.

The Edinburgh's Hogmanay arena opens at 8pm, with the Old Town Ceilidh running from 8pm til 1am. There is no entry to the events after 11pm.
