Festival Theatre: Shall We Dance?

Description

Fancy a glittering evening of ballroom dancing that bring back the halcyon days of dancing ‘at the Palais’ right into the 21st century? Then dig out your dancing shoes and join Shall We Dance? at the FTE Studio this June!

Responding to a growing demand for ballroom social events, Shall We Dance? combines a relaxed and informal opening dance class with a glamourous evening of music, dance and getting your glad rags on. Dancers of all ages and abilities, from first timers to members of the city’s burgeoning amateur and professional ballroom communities, are invited to dance the night away.

Dawn-Claire Irvine, the creative force behind Shall We Dance? says, “This is an exciting opportunity to create a fun, relaxed event with a contemporary feel that caters for everyone to enjoy all that ballroom dancing has to offer. My vision is to shake up the ‘typical tea dance in a local church hall’ notion and produce a vibrant, jam-packed evening, right in the heart of the city.”

The evening commences with a free introductory dance class led by former International Ballroom dancing champions Dawn-Claire and her brother Darren Robertson to get everyone in the mood. From people who have never stepped out partner dancing before to those who compete on the ballroom and Latin American dance circuit, this will be a chance to learn how to get roun the flair with a partner or to simply get those muscles warm for a full evening of dancing.

Current Scottish Ballroom champions, Tibor Poc and Hilary Mouat, will perform a fabulous live showcase and music comes courtesy of vibrant live band, Radio Pachuco, that combine their love of old and new music with their own brand of 'pop-swing', remastering modern favourites into vintage style tunes that sit happily alongside jazz standards.

The teaching, the music and the performance element of the show are all geared towards helping everyone find their own groove. Shall We Dance? welcomes solo dancers as well as couples and supports non-gender specific partner dancing, so dancers can choose to pick up lead or follow roles.

Shall We Dance? has the full support of the Festival and King’s Theatres with all proceeds from the events going back into the work of the Festival City Theatres Trust, the independent theatre charity that runs both theatres.
