Exactly one hundred years will have passed today since the end of the First World War, a conflict that devastated a generation.

The Royal British Legion Scotland in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council, Historic Environment Scotland, Scottish National War Memorial and 51st Infantry Brigade and HQ Scotland are marking the anniversary with a one-off procession and service so that, the Legion says, "collectively we will say ‘Thank You’ to all who served, sacrificed and changed our world".

The procession follows the annual Remembrance Sunday service at St Giles Cathedral.

On the completion of the service attendees are invited to join the procession that will form up in West Parliament Square and at 12:30 make its way to the Castle Esplanade and thereafter Crown Square Edinburgh Castle, site of the Scottish National War Memorial.

The service will commence at 13:15 and will be jointly conducted by the Reverend Neil Gardner MA BD, Minister of Canongate Kirk and the Reverend Dr Karen Campbell BD (Hons) MTh DMin, National Chaplain of the Royal British Legion Scotland.

Wreaths will be laid during the service by invited representatives from the City of Edinburgh, the Armed Forces, the Scottish Government and UK Government, the Royal British Legion Scotland and the Scottish National War Memorial.

Individuals and organisations wishing to lay wreaths may do so at the conclusion of the service.

The service will end no later than 14:00.
