11 June 2011 - 10:00pm
Venue:
Inverleith Park

Up to 12,000 women (and men) are expected to powerwalk the streets of Edinburgh on the shortest night of the year in their decorated bras to raise money for breast cancer research and cancer care.

There are two challenges The Full Moon (26.2 miles) or The Half Moon (13.1 miles) which start and end in Inverleith Park. With so many participants the start time is staggered from 10pm onwards.

The Moon Walk - so-called because it takes place under the light of the moon - has raised millions for charity. There are only 2 other MoonWalks, The MoonWalk London and new for 2011 The MoonWalk Iceland.

Together the Moon Walks have raised almost £12 million over the past five years. The majority of the money raised in Edinburgh, goes towards Scottish causes.

Among those taking part are TV presenter and columnist Lorraine Kelly. When asked if she will be walking in the event, she said “You bet. I will still be taking part in The Scottish MoonWalk in my Zimmer frame. It is a fantastic, emotional and fun night.”
