Edinburgh
Fringe 2000 To Sell Tickets Online
Thursday 8th June The
Edinburgh Festival Fringe today announced that it will be selling tickets
online. Punters will be able to purchase tickets to any of the 1350 Edinburgh
Fringe shows being performed in August in Edinburgh, at the official web
site from later this month. The site will be using a secure shopping cart
system as used on many other e-tail web sites. There is, however, a limited allocation of tickets for sale online, so if you are not quick enough for hot tickets you may still have to queue at the Fringe box office or the venue for the show that you are going to see. "This year we have really embraced the World Wide Web," said Edinburgh Fringe director, Paul Gudgin (below) at the launch of the Edinburgh Fringe programme. "We recognized the Web had more potential," added Gudgin. "We'd like to communicate the excitement of the festival." Revealing unexpected nerdish tendencies Gudgin continued to rattle off a list of popular keywords used by companies for their entries in this year's Fringe programme - 59 for "hilarious", 53 for "original", 9 for "unforgettable", 17 for "millennium", and 14 for "outrageous". As
well as offering a facility for searching the whole programme online,
the completely overhauled Fringe site carries tailored sections for specific
users like fringe-goers, performers and press. The site have also introduced
a new character called "Ed Fringe", a faceless cut-out who will
provide users with answers to their questions.Web users can also store a personalised diary of Fringe events and shows. "When you wake up one morning in one of those Fringe hazes, as long as you can get to a computer you'll know where you are," quipped Gudgin. Statistics for the Edinburgh Fringe site last year was in the region of a million visits. Latest statistics reveal that there are 250,000 visits made a month to the site. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe site is at www.edfringe.com. Meanwhile, here at EdinburghGuide.com we'll be keeping you bang up-to-date with the hottest shows coming to the capital in August. |
