Diary: Monday August
7th
Cavalcade
Sunday: the day that Edinburgh was split in half for a day. Overkill,
was the verdict by all who have experienced Festivals, Hogmanay, Fireworks
and other closures. Ra Cavalcade was dead brilliant: sunshine, braw costumes,
excited fowk, big lorry floats. It was fu 'o 'promise fur a guid Festival.
Aff tae the Skoda at Dynamic Earth, which promised to be the Gala
party of the Festival. First of all, there was the segregation, yin doon
below fur those an such as those, then there was an area cordoned off, wherein
the Press were corralled so that the Press Fowk could stand the pace of
the bright young hopefuls proffering their shows by leaflet.
I have no problem with them, after all it costs all of them a fortune to
bring a sma' show to Edinburgh. I have a problem with the Chief Steward
pulling us all down there under false pretences, then treating us like idiots.
Wake up, Paul! If it is the Fringe Press Party then that is what it is,
not a Gala party with Skoda sponsorship, which is used for a private party
for Edinburgh's super-liggers.
Anywise, the pairty warmed up, an' I wus mightly impressed by Swamp Circus
who are performing in Princes Street Gairdens, an 'a' be gein them a look.
The African Fowk that I saw in an absinthe fog in the Bongo Club a few nights
ago had an interesting story. They couldnae find a flat or wee room tae
sleep in, some kind sowl found them a flat in Leith, but they preferred
to go an bide in Craigmillar, sound like a rare one fur Craigmillar, nae
references to it being like the tounships please.
Av noo goat a list o guid shows fur ma top tips, so Fergie's top ten will
be up soon. Ra morra am aff tae a couple o smairt pairties.
