Festival Exhibition MARJ BOND RSW

The Open Eye always throws a good party at the Festival, so we sallied forth for the preview of the Marj Bond exhibition. Wine glasses in hand, we weaved our way through the crowds to look at the paintings.

Much of Bond's work depicts female figures and heads, which are a blend of abstraction and representation, and have a strong connection with ancient civilisations and cultures. Jacob's Dream, a painting of mystery showing an elongated face with a tube-like body resting on the top rungs of a ladder, painted in cool shades of blues and greys.

An altogether warmer palette of rich earthy tones for El Rey, depicting a strong chiselled face, planed as if hewn out of wood. The Vicuna Hunter reveals a side view of another inscrutable face with the back of the head encompassing the form of a horse-like beast.

Obviously Marj Bond was a popular choice for the Festival Exhibition as red dots were appearing like confetti - definitely a Gallery to visit if you have a spare half-hour.

The Times: Mon.-Fri l0-6 Sat. l0-4.
Exhibition closes Sat. l6th September l2 noon.
