T
takes to the Fringe
Thursday 8th June You've
heard of T in the Park: now there's T on the Fringe. The new addition
to the already bursting Edinburgh performance arts circuit in August is
being introduced by DF Concerts and Tennents Lager, organizers of the
major annual Scottish rock festival. The acts already lined up for the fest within the Fringe are: Pulp (24), Semisonic (21), Martyn Bennett (11), Rae and Christian (8), David Gray (7), Toploader (18), Doves (21), Ian Brown (25), Idlewild (24), Hobo talk (29), Lo Fidelity Allstars (25), Glenn Tilbrook (10) and Grandaddy (29). DF Concerts aim to mix established talent with more local talent, although at this stage the local element has yet to be confirmed. Last August saw the injection of top notch rock acts like Nick Cave and Orbital for the Flux Festival, but rock 'n' pop has always been in short supply on the Fringe. Speaking at the press launch of T on the Fringe today, DF Concerts boss Stuart Clampas (pictured above) said the aim was to involve bands that will reflect the experimental ethos of the Fringe and artists that "we know can perform live". Clampas said that he had been keen to put on music on the Fringe after a long absence, but was unable to find a suitable venue. He said he didn't want to "return to the nonsense we had ten years ago where you had something right up your backend and you've only ten minutes to do a soundcheck". A big incentive was the fact that the Corn Exchange, an expansive, spacious building in Slateford became available: "It provided a great big coathanger on which to hang this event," explained Clampas. T on the Fringe will also take place in the Liquid Rooms, a smaller but more centrally located venue on Victoria Street. The 24 hour ticket and information hotline is on (0141) 339 8383 and online at the Fringe Web site. |
