The Exhibition Festival Exhibitions

The Place
Bourne Fine Art, 6 Dundas St

The Blurb This airy gallery is the perfect setting for the dramatic sculptures of Jilly Sutton. With great skill she has used various limed woods to achieve a very different exhibition.

I particularly liked 'Pontoon Girl', which shows off the grain of wood to maximum effect, and looks equally good cast in bronze. Three pine fish with metal rings in their mouths, hanging, side by side, from three pegs, strike a whimsical chord.

However, not all the sculptures are your modestly sized pieces, and if you are looking for something large you can't miss "The Soldier and The Nurse", or the mask like "Ponderer" John Boyd's deceptively simple "faceless" fishermen, going about their daily tasks, have a quiet charm.

Check out The "Stubble Field Group", showing three men having a break. Painted in tertia colours, the artist has created some interesting light effects, with clever brush strokes. In more vibrant colours is his "Mixed Themes Still-Life", which shows the knick-knacks and clutter of everyday life.

Also include in the exhibition is stoneware and lusterware. Definitely worth a visit.
