The Exhibition 21st Festival Exhibition - A selection of paintings, watercolours and sculptures by Scottish, British and European artists from 1750-1940

The Place The Calton Gallery, 10 Royal Terrace

The Blurb Champagne corks were popping at the preview of this exhibition, and people were spilling out on the street, obviously enjoying a good party. This magnificent Georgian house on three floors is the perfect location for many of the impressive paintings on display, such as the 18th century follower of Giovanni Antonio Canal, il Canaletto, a view of San Giorgio Maggiore from the Gindecca Canal. However, it comes with a price tag to match!

Joseph Herman's delightful set of four Spanish farm workers scenes in ink and pencil wash are striking in their simplicity, and James Kay's "Paris at Night" is a very lively street scene.

Followers of Joseph Crawhall with his humerous watercolour, pencil and crayon drawings of dogs, horses and hunts, will find several of his works on display. William Etty's "Reclining nude" makes you want to "touch skin", so skilfully has the artist painted the tones of flesh. Definitely worth a visit, if only to soak in the ambience of the place.

The Time Til 8th Sept. Monday to Friday 10a.m.-6p.m. Saturday 10a.m.-1p.m.
