The Exhibition Preservation

The Place The Leith Gallery at English Speaking Union, 23 Atholl Crescent

The Blurb The Leith is presenting this exhibition to celebrate the opening of the refurbished gallery at the ESU.

The celebration started with great aplomb when HRH, The Duke of Edinburgh formally opened the exhibition. A few people managed to get their red dots on early - just in case HRH decided to enhance his collection at the Royal residence!

The themes for this show are "Human Rights" and Conservation;, with many of the artists offering personal representations of landscapes of great beauty.

Beth Webster's paintings have a definite message. Her "Disappeared" shows three despairing individuals holding bloodstained photographs of loved ones. Behind them there is a graffiti wall covered with the names of countries where atrocities have occurred.

Diana Leslie's "Linda and her goose" is not so easily interpreted. Here is a repressed looking, bespectacled woman. She is seated with a goose on her knees, and her legs are disproportionately large compared to her head and body. On her feet are red shoes. Does she want to break out from the narrow constraints of her life - are there sexual overtones? Whatever conclusions you come to, this is a thought provoking exhibition.

The Time Monday to Saturday 9.30a.m - 5.30p.m, 8th Aug - 1st Sept.
