The Exhibition Jeff Koons; Easyfun-Ethereal

The Place
The Fruitmarket Gallery, 45 Market Street

The Blurb One of America's most high-profile artists, Jeff Koons started his career trading on Wall Street and moved into art with the intention of earning similar amounts of money as he did as a broker.

In this work he uses the advertisements, everyday artefacts and the imagery from modern Western consumer culture.

The exhibition comprises of seven large scale photo-realist oil paintings. These almost have the finish of a photograph, as the paint is so thin, but there is layer upon layer of imagery.

They are fascinating, as is the man, who has been very effective at promoting himself, (as you will find on the video) despite the fact that the 'works of art' are only conceived by him, virtually all the work being done by a team of 'technicians'.

Certainly, few artists can claim to have had as much influence on contemporary art as Koons, although many would argue that his desire to commodify art has created cheap, throwaway rubbish. Charlatan or genius? You decide.

The Time Mon-Sat 11:00-18:00hrs, Sun 12:00-17:00hrs. Till 12th September

The Cost £3:00, concessions £1:50.
