In her third show at the Fringe, and her fourth year as a comedienne, Maeve Higgins claims that she "doesn't want to be famous." If this is true, she's really not going about it the right way.

Having had a taster of her comedic style at the Gilded Balloon press launch, my need to see the complete show was heightened. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed.

Playing in the Billiard Room worked clearly to her advantage, as a degree of intimacy was created that can sometimes be lost in larger venues. Just like the Idiots of Ants before her, a larger venue would really do her no harm.

Higgins' chatty style and array of facial expressions bring out the humour in her stories. In a way, Higgins reminds me of the girl from school that could always make you laugh, an irresistible quality that so many people just don't possess. With her ability on display, the audience and I were hanging on her every word.

I believe that one of the keys that makes comedy successful is the ability to make the audience believe, and Higgins should pride herself on being able to do just that.

I laughed till my sides hurt at her well-constructed tales and pet hates, such as the love for her cats, her huge family and the real way in which love stories should end. This is top class comedy from Cobh, and as I said before, celebrity is coming. You just can't stop that buzz.
