Dames at Sea Review

The American dream is achieved in under 90 minutes in this performance of 'Dames at Sea'.

This musical is a parody of the large flashy, huge cast 1930s Busby berkley-style movies in which the understudy steps into a role and becomes an overnight star.

It's good fun, tongue-in-cheek production of the somewhat dated approach to musicals. A broadway show with an American cast and I suspect a predominantly American audience were treated to some fine performances by a talented cast of eight.

The production copied the moves of that era and that was part of the over all send-up. While there were no Kellys and no Sinatras, Zack Padlo has a good voice and the show is packed with good songs well sung by all the cast.

Patricia St. Peters as the girl from Centreville looking for stardom and Kendall Owings as the Diva capture their roles convincingly. The supportive friend and chorus girl Joan played by Megan King was excellent throughout whether singing, dancing or acting and you heard every word!

Some of the cast some of the time need to project a little bit more to ensure the audience catches the lyrics. It's a family show, and it's worth getting out and about early in the morning to see. A bargain at £5 a ticket.
