Incessantly branded as one of our youngest comedy success stories, Daniel Sloss is fast shaking off his adolescence with an exceptional contribution to this year’s Fringe. In his 3rd solo show, The Joker, Daniel tones down the gross gags and plays his newfound celebrity arrogance to great effect, but with inherent charm he’s nigh impossible to dislike. Unless of course, you’re old or think he has “prick” hair.

On Saturday night the weather is against him, with a summer’s worth of rain having had its way with Edinburgh all day. Nevertheless the Spiegeltent is packed with sodden bodies, and Daniel soon has us steaming up the stained-glass windows.

His new material is still fundamentally rude and silly as ever, but the jokes stem from less obvious topics, proving that he’s growing up, and he’s only getting better.

What makes the well-developed gag so unexpected is the cringe-worthy one dropped minutes before it - so dreadful it sees half the audience with their head in their hands; he briefly lowers the tone before restoring confidence with a vegetarian clincher.

I suspect the entire room never stopped smiling, and I don’t blame them. If you’ve seen him, go again, he’s certainly no broken record. If you haven’t, get it booked before he sells out- yet again.
