With a title like this and her recent wide appeal as a contestant in "Strictly Come Dancing" this show was always going to be popular and so it proved.

Comedian turned sex therapist Pamela Stephenson-Connolly did not disappoint; she entered wearing a low cut, cleavage-revealing, red dress, with an off-white cardigan, and with her long blonde hair made an immediate impact.

The session was chaired by Ruth Wishart who put us all at ease by stating that, "should anyone be worried if there is a doctor in the house, the answer is, yes, and she's sitting right here!"

Ruth Wishart added that for many "sex" was still a four letter word.  In reply Pamela Stephenson-Connolly said that really too many people are afraid to talk about the subject face to face when they should actually enjoy talking about it - and not just talking about it!

People should test the myths about sexuality such as, that you are allowed to do 'it' at the age of twenty one and then must  retire your pelvis at forty five. She said that people in later life should be able to enjoy sex more as "they were better at it".  So perhaps there is hope for us all!     Sex, she said, is all about having a "bodily conversation with someone" and this is, she felt, often well expressed in a dance - presumably as she found in "Strictly Come Dancing".

However, she then said she would like to demonstrate this with a member of the audience and asked for volunteers (I only saw one brave hand go up!), but Pamela prowled along the front of the audience saying that she wanted to have a choice and would pick someone - at which point some men's hearts leapt, while others filled with apprehension.

However, she picked Leroy, who was soon obviously seen to be a plant as he was a fine dancer and the couple performed an Argentine tango which was very sensuous - clearly she has learned a great deal from her "Strictly" experience.   The lessons of the dance were explained by the way the man led for parts but the woman took the lead for an equal share in the performance.  This, she said, illustrated how sex should be.

She said that sex is something to be enjoyed all our lives so long as we remain healthy.  She illustrated this with the question she had from a ninety four year old man who asked if he should really be having sex with an eighty four year old woman?  Pamela Stephenson-Connelly answered, "Of course- why not!" Her point was that sexual rights should be available to all adults.

Ruth Wishart was curious if her husband approved of her career as a sex therapist, to which she said the response from her husband was - bring your work back home more often!

When asked why sex education is not good in this country, she replied that she felt that only so much can be done at school and there needs to be much more open discussion about sex in the home. As young people develop she said there were many questions that needed to be answered like, "Am I normal?"

Pamela Stephenson-Connolly answered many questions from the audience who seemed less awkward than one might have expected for Edinburgh and rounded off her session by performing another short, but sensuous Argentine tango with Leroy who was clearly a superb dancer.

Obviously Pamela was getting into the mood as off came the cardigan as she gave the audience a very expert demonstration showing why she lasted so long in "Strictly". My only regret was that she did not bring the "Big Yin" with her for the lecture.

For those wishing to learn more, her book, "Sex Life"  provides an entertaining and sometimes shocking review of the subject.
