Celebrate Easter with National Museums Scotland!

Here at National Museums Scotland there is a whole host of exciting events and fun-packed activities to enjoy during Easter 2008. From a special egg drop at the National Museum of Flight to Easter bunnies down on the farm at the National Museum of Rural Life – everyone can come along and enjoy some springtime fun!

Exhibition: Silver: Made in Scotland

See the stunningly unique silver Scottish egg-shaped coffee pots from the 18th century, a part of the collection of over 350 shining examples of this beautiful, versatile and precious metal.  Uncover the largest and most dazzling display of Scottish silver ever seen.

The £46 million transformation of the Royal Museum building into a museum for the 21st century is underway.   There is not long to go before the Royal Museum is closed for its dramatic transformation.  Find out why things are changing now, how the transformation will be realised – including which galleries will be closed when – and gain a ‘sneak peak’ of what the revamped museum will look like from 2011.

From Fair Isle sweaters, to cutting-edge creations, Scotland has an international reputation for its beautifully designed knitwear.  This new exhibition puts the spotlight on ‘hip knits’ in Scotland.  See knitwear by Queene & Belle, Pringle of Scotland, Ingrid Tait (of Tait & Style), James Millar, Vivienne Westwood and other leading international fashion firms.

The Museum re-opens to the public on Friday 21st March. Entry to events included in admission price: Adult £3, Concession £2, Child 12 and under free.

This Easter, take part in our trail for children age three and older where all the answers leads to an Easter treat, or experience the excitement of our Egg Drop Challenge! Or why not join in our family workshop where you can build a contraption to hold your egg which we then drop from height.  There will also be the chance to feel like a pilot as the jet stream is opened while you sit in a cockpit. How high do you think you could fly?

Entry to events is included in admission price: Adult £5.50, Concession £4.50, Child 12 and under free. There is an extra charge for a Concorde Boarding Pass.
