Scottish Storytelling Centre summer programme
Scottish Storytelling Centre summer programme welcomes you home
Storytellers At Home is a new project at the Scottish Storytelling Centre designed to take you straight to the hearth of storytelling. You are invited to the home of Scotland's Stories; come and make yourself comfortable in the Centre's cosy living room!
The Scottish Storytelling Centre hosts free 45-minute storytelling sessions at 12noon to 3pm every day from 3rd July -1st August. Edinburgh residents and visitors to the city are invited come along at any time of day to experience some live storytelling, meet storytellers from all over Scotland, have a chat and explore the different ideas and activities the storytellers bring with them. Stories and events will be suitable for all ages and the storytellers all have their own special tales, so why not become a regular visitor?
The Gathering 2009 is one of the biggest events in Scotland this summer as part of Homecoming 2009. The Scottish Storytelling Centre is delighted to be working in partnership with The Gathering to coordinate a range of events to celebrate Scotland's rich culture and heritage. Music, storytelling performances and walking tours will put homecomers in touch with the authentic Scotland, with celebratory evenings which delve deep beyond the tartan wrappings to a Scotland rich in living traditions and veiled in myth. Storytellers Ewan McVicar and Nancy Nicolson evoke the culture of Scottish urban communities in Ceilidh House on 22nd July, and David Campbell and Claire Hewitt travel hill and glen in the footsteps of drovers and shepherds in Lore of the Land on 24th July.
Every Wednesday evening is your chance to come out of the bustle of the busy High Street into the bright, relaxing Storytelling Café. Café guests are treated to feast of fabulous tales, along with fine drinks and good company. In a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere, professional storytellers bring storytelling club culture into the modern day with stories and songs from Scotland and beyond. The Storytelling Café is a perfect way to kick back for the summer and get your imagination going for this year's Fringe festival.
