Edinburgh Youngsters set for Lord's Taverners Cricket Finals
EDINBURGH YOUNGSTERS SET FOR LORD'S TAVERNERS CRICKET FINALS
Youngsters from Edinburgh will swap the city streets for the leafy greens of Arundel Castle thanks to The Lord's Taverners, recreational cricket's official charity, which will host the Ford Inner Cities Cup finals at the historic Castle Ground in Arundel from Tuesday 11th to Thursday 13th August.
The long-running Ford Inner Cities Cup is now in its 14th year and continues to allow youngsters from urban areas the opportunity to play representative cricket. The final play offs follow a series of rigorous regional heats with 24 teams having played throughout the UK in the opening group stages.
Edinburgh beat off tough competition from Glasgow and Durham in the regional heats and will take on Cardiff, Coventry and Northampton in the final play offs. The victors will go on to play the winners of the second group of finalists (Belfast, Bradford, Southampton and Sunderland) on Thursday 13th August at Arundel Cricket Ground, Arundel, West Sussex, BN18 9LH. Play starts at 9.45am.
Matthew Patten, Chief Executive of The Lord's Taverners, commented, "The Lord's Taverners believes that sport and recreation are essential to the development of young people. This competition allows youngsters from urban areas, where sport and recreational opportunities aren't always readily available, the chance to take part in a national competition. We wish all this year's participants the very best of luck."
Bill Polson, Edinburgh Team Manager, said, "We managed to get through the first round of play offs and now look forward to travelling to Arundel Castle for an exciting few days at the finals. The Inner Cities Cup is a competition which brings youngsters together from throughout the UK and it's really great to be a part of that."
