A good time to visit - the city is relatively quiet and you wont find yourself queuing to get into places. Depending on the weather, it can be a great time to just walk through the city. From Charlotte Square down to Stockbridge through the New Town; from Stockbridge to Dean Village along the Water of Leith; up to the castle by Castle Hill from Princes Street; the large glass houses at the Botanic gardens; and if you are feeling energetic up Arthur's Seat for a great view of the city. For nightlife quite a few of the Old Town night clubs in the vaults under the city are fairly unique venues.

don't miss the view from Dean Bridge, it's nice on sunny days and clear nights...

I think the best way to go is to use one of the pedicabs - rickshaws.. these guys will give you a nice tour for a fair price, and it'll be fun.

by the way, if you're interested in potter, you should have a coffee at the Elephant House :)
