Twins

For many primary school pupils it was day one of school today. A total of 4,346 Edinburgh children started P1 today, 271 more than this time last year. The new starts included three sets of twins for one school, Duddingston Primary.

As the new term begins schools are looking forward to a year full of learning and fun. In addition, for the first time ever, all primary schools will open their doors on 27 September (10am-3pm) for parents and prospective parents to come and have a look around and learn more about their catchment school.

Councillor Paul Godzik, Education Convener wished pupils, parents and teachers the best of luck for the year ahead, and encouraged them "to keep up the good work."

“Schools Open Day is a fantastic opportunity to go and have a look around your local school and see it in operation. You will be able to meet the staff and experience some of the great work taking place at schools throughout the city," he added.

“I would encourage parents who will be registering their children this November to take this opportunity to learn more about their child’s potential future school. Sending children to their local school can have many benefits for both parents, children and the community where they live.”

Any parents with children under primary school age are welcome to attend and parents who may be thinking of moving into an area may also find it useful.
