Summerhall Fringe shows set to be beamed to 30 UK Cinemas

Live screening of major theatrical events is something the public has become accustomed to in recent years but for the first time the Edinburgh Fringe can be seen nationwide thanks to digital arts pioneers, Hibrow, who are supported by Arts Council England.

Joining forces with ODEON, a name that is a byword for cinema, Hibrow plans to take a series of daily performances at Edinburgh’s Summerhall venue out of its cobbled confines on to the silver screen with a series of special screenings throughout August.

Rupert Thompson, Artistic Director at Summerhall says: "We are delighted that Summerhall will be hosting this live cinematic fringe first - beaming the festival to audiences across the UK. We are immensely proud of the programme of festival events this year - and delighted to be working with theatre innovators Hibrow on this project."

Hibrow Hour represents an exciting new digital frontier for the legendary festival with three brand new plays by young theatre-makers, an opera from an internationally recognised artist/filmmaker, comedy acts curated by two of Britain’s most celebrated comedy producers, and a show from Steven Berkoff, all specially designed to be transmitted via satellite to selected ODEON Cinemas nationwide. Each 90 minute programme will also include exclusive coverage of the Festival at large in a specially produced short feature.
