Classical Music in the Fringe 2011
The 2011 Fringe Programme lists over one hundred classical music events - some with multiple performances; in all about 200 tempting possibilities.
My wish list includes organ recitals at St Cuthbert’s Church, St Giles’ Cathedral and St Andrew’s and St George’s West. Harpists performing at St John’s Church and St Andrew’s and St George’s West and guitars at St Cecilia’s Hall. Violin and viola performances at St Andrew’s and St George’s West and Canongate Kirk. Pianist Sebastian Thirlway plays at St Mark’s and Akiko Okamoto and Stefan Warzyncki at St Andrew’s and St George’s West.
There’s Bruckner by Candlelight and Bach by Candlelight at St Mary’s Cathedral and the late evening Hot Chocolate series at Old St Paul’s Church. Ludus Baroque play Handel and Bach’s B Mass Minor both at Canongate Kirk and there’s Rossini from the Scottish Chamber Choir.
There’s Bach for Breakfast, Beethoven for Breakfast, Chopin after Lunch, Mozart at Teatime and Shostakovich late - all at Royal Overseas League in Princes Street. I hope to see the Orchestra of the Canongait perform Mahler’s 9th Symphony at Greyfriars Kirk.
