Record crowds, and torches sell-out for the Torchlight Procession, but tickets are still available for the Street Party tonight.

The Edinburgh International Festival announced that next Summer's programme will include a double-helping of the Bard - a comedy and a tragedy.<

The final allocation of tickets for the annual Edinburgh Festival Fireworks Concert - this year dubbed the Virgin Money Festival Fireworks after its new sponsor - go on sale on Saturday 3 September at 10.00am. They are only available over the counter at The Hub on Castlehill.

The second allocation of tickets for the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert will be released on 18th July at 10am, online, over the phone and in person at The Hub.

Public sales of Edinburgh International Festival tickets start from 10am this Saturday 2 April. Ticket prices start at just £10. Students and under-18s can claim 50 per cent off.

Virgin Money was officially announced today as the title sponsor of the Edinburgh International Festival Fireworks Concert, the 28-year-old, grand finale of Edinburgh's summer festivals.

As a lifelong Edinburgh resident, I have experienced the Capital’s Christmas and New Year Festival celebrations over many years, (dating back to the days when over 300,000 unticketed spectators crammed onto Princes Street on 31 December).  I often think I should become jaded by the annual display of sparkling trees, ice rink, music, song and dance, with fireworks at midnight.

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations were launched tonight - a day later than in previous years - with a spectacular Torchlight Procession through the centre of Edinburgh's Old Town.
