Heavy rain has forced the Edinburgh International Festival to close the family viewing area at Inverleith Park for the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert this Sunday. The decision was taken on the advice of the City of Edinburgh Council, after the fields became waterlogged.
The Council has designated Waverley Bridge, with its view Westwards of Edinburgh Castle, as an alternative viewing area.
Waverley bridge will be closed to traffic to provide more space for people gathering to watch the fireworks and speakers set-up to carry the live concert being played by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
Another viewing area will be established on the north of Princes Street (between Castle Street and Frederick Street) for families and people with disabilities. As in previous years Princes Street audiences can enjoy the Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s performance relayed through a massive speaker system.
The Edinburgh International Festival is also putting a proportion of its allocation of Princes Street Garden tickets a day early on Thursday 30 August at 10am. Details on buying Festival Fireworks Concert tickets.
The last remaining tickets will go on sale only at The Hub from 10am on Saturday 1 September.
2012 Fireworks Programme
The Fesitval Fireworks concerts, the EIF's grand finale, is 9.00pm on 2nd September. It will begin with a volley of fireworks travelling at 200 miles per hour, rising 750 feet above Edinburgh Castle as the Scottish Chamber Orchestra launches into Walton’s Orb and Sceptre.
Over 100,000 fireworks choreographed to orchestral music will light up the sky over the Scottish capital.
