Assembly Roxy has announced some of its eclectic programme of musical events coming up this spring (March – May 2015).
The new season of Roxy music begins with the first outing for The Chapel of Ease, a series of monthly nights offering a candlelit smorgasbord of local talent whose influences combine the Scottish with the international and the traditional with the contemporary. Taking root in the Snug Bar within the vaults of this former church, The Chapel of Ease welcomes Lizabett Russo (26 March), Pocion De Fe (30 April) and Jed Potts & The Hillman Hunters (28 May) to perform for those who make a pilgrimage to the Southside.
In April, Manchester-based dark-pop duo Shield Patterns (23 April) serve up their own ambient mix of beautifully delicate Kate Bush-esque vocals and fragile electronica as they embark on their first European tour. Following the success of their debut album Contour Lines last year, Claire Brentnall and Richard Knox return to Roxy as they promote their brand new EP Violet (released on 9th March) and perform an unmissable night of exquisitely experimental pop with support from Edinburgh locals Graveyard Tapes.
The Roxy continues to showcase Scottish talent with the McKenzie Sawers Duo: Beyond The Coral Sea (10 May), a programme mixing classical, jazz, folk and world music influences. Performing works from their critically acclaimed recording of The Coral Sea, Sue McKenzie and Ingrid Sawers are Scotland’s foremost saxophone and piano duo and have achieved an international reputation for their commissioning, writing and performing of new music. The programme includes works inspired by composers such as James McMillan, Gary Carpenter and Michael Nyman alongside new commissions by Andrew Keeling and Martin Green, specially written for the McKenzie Sawers Duo.
