Wicked sweeps back to Edinburgh in 2018

The multi award winning musical Wicked, that gives the back story of the Good Witch of the North and the infamous Wicked Witch of the West, returns for a run at Edinburgh’s Playhouse this May.

The musical is based on the novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire that re-imagines L. Frank Baum’s well- loved Land of Oz first published in 1900 under the title The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. It tells the back story of the unlikely yet deep friendship of two sorcery students at Shiz University who end up becoming the Good Witch of the North and the infamous Wicked Witch of the West.

On Monday 29th January, a small invited audience were given an amuse bouche introduced by the show’s UK Executive Producer Michael McCabe. The event featured Senior Costume Assistant Hannah Williams who gave some fascinating statistics about the number of fantastical costumes, some of which were on display, and the intensity of work involved with a wide range of skills from milliners to shoemakers to sequin sewers. Three of the cast, Helen Woolf who plays Glinda, Aaron Sidwell who plays Fiyero, and Amy Ross who plays Elphaba, and who sang impressively in this intimate setting, also appeared at the event.

Wicked has already been seen by over 53 million people around the world and is one of the most celebrated and successful musicals of all time and has been performed over 130 cities in 16 countries around the world.
The multi record-breaking original Broadway production is now the 8th longest-running show in Broadway history. Now in its 12th year at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre, and already the 15th longest running show in London theatre history and the 10th longest running musical, Wicked tours the UK & Ireland throughout 2018 with Edinburgh dates from 8 May to 9 June 2018 at Edinburgh’s Playhouse.
