Scottish Cricket Team Beat England In Historic Match

Cricket may be England's national game, and the English team may be ranked number one in the world, but it was Scotland's day as the two national teams met at the Grange in Edinburgh yesterday.

In a historic result, Scotland won the one-day cricket international by six runs with seven balls remaining. It's Scotland's first victory in international cricket against England.

The game provided a barrage of boundaries as Scotland batted their way to a One Day International record score of 371, including a superb innings by batsman Calum MacLeod.

MacLeod's tally of 140 not out came off 94 balls. He's also now the first Scotland batsman to make a century against England.

England batter Jonny Bairstow responded with a forthright 105 off 59 balls, but was caught at long-off.

English wickets fell in succession as the visitors chased Scotland's narrowing lead until bowler Safyaan Sharif spurred a pitch invasion when he got England's number 10 batsman Mark Wood lbw off a full toss in the fifth ball of the 49th over.

Calum MacLeod called it "certainly one of the best games of cricket I've been involved in."

"To have the number one team in the world here, and the energy from the crowd, to set a total like that... what a game," he said.
