Bard In The Botanics Embarks On First Scotland-wide Tour

For the first time, Bard in the Botanics, Scotland’s only dedicated Shakespeare company, is to undertake a fourteen venue nationwide tour. From Thurso and in the Inner Hebrides in the north to Stranraer in south it will be taking its popular version of Romeo and Juliet around the country.

Bard in the Botanics has been bringing Shakespeare to Scottish audiences since 2002 and during that time has staged of over 40 productions of Shakespeare's work. As well as staging Scotland’s only annual Shakespeare Festival, it has performed with Perth International Festival of the Arts; Big in Falkirk; the Merchant City Festival; Cumbernauld Theatre; Eastwood Park Theatre; North Lanarkshire Youth Arts Festival; Gilmorehill G12; the West End Festival and the macroberts arts centre, Stirling.

Artistic Director, Gordon Barr, brings together an established core company which is complemented by young talent, much of it fostered through the Bard in the Botanics Emerging Artists programme.

Barr says, “Romeo and Juliet is one of our most popular productions. Thanks to support from Creative Scotland we are able to revive the production for our first ever nationwide tour and are looking forward to performing in venues across the length and breadth of Scotland.”

This performance of Romeo and Juliet sees Stephanie McGregor reprise her role of Juliet with Romeo played by recent Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduate, Terence Rae. Bard in the Botanics main company regular, Robert Elkin, plays Mercutio with young talent Ewan Petrie as Tybalt and Adam Donaldson as Benvolio.
